I have been on the foster forum for a while now, my DH and I are in the process to do foster/adopt thru Riverside County.
I got a call today from my Uncles wife. Her cousin just had a baby, and does not want to raise him. Bio dad is headed to jail I guess, domestic violence. She knows we are going thru this process and wants us to take this baby.
My question, how does this process happen? Right now, the state does not have baby, mom does. I can't imagine she can just pass the child over to us and call it good. Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed, my head is spinning right now!!

It's my understanding mom wants nothing to do with baby. She has three other children that have all been adopted. According to mom she is about to loose this one to cps, and is begging family to step in before that happens.

I'd consult an attorney. You'll have to get biodad to sign away his rights and biomom also. That has to be done legally thru the courts so you can adopt. I would not get CPS involved if you don't need to. Do a private adoption between all of you.

For everyone's protection, you should have an adoption attorney ... and the birthparents should have another. Then, everyone's properly represented and cannot claim later that they were not.
