Hello all,
A little over 6 months ago my husband and I got custody of our great niece. Her mother is unable to take care of her and her father is in prison. Everyone involved wants an adoption to take place. Both biological parents want us to adopt her. I am wondering what the process is for a case such as this. Does anyone out there have any info that could help me? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance. Waiting
I'd get an attorney because TPR (termination of parental rights) has to happen before you can adopt. I'm assuming CPS is not involved so an attorney who handles adoptions would be best. The bioparents would need to sign away their rights and then you'd be able to adopt the child.

Yes, if you are the guardians/conservators then you have to foot the bill to hire an attorney to get the parents' rights terminated and file for adoption.
If the child is living with you, but is still overseen by CPS, then things will be different.
"Custody" is pretty loose with some people. So it's hard to tell unless we get the full legal jist ;)
