So right now we are in SC. We are beginning the fost/adopt process here with DSS. However we may be moving to the Houston area next summer. Any idea how tx handles a move mid-process? Do you have to work with an agency or can you go directly with CPS/DSS/DHS? I know of DePelchin and hear wonderful things.

Well, we are in Abilene but Texas is starting a redesign of foster care where all foster parents will have to be with an agency and a company called Providence will oversee them all. They just started in September in Region 2/9 which is where Abilene is, and I don't know when it will take effect in the Houston area, but if I were you, I'd go with an agency just so you won't have to switch again when the redesign does happen. Plus, when you go with a private agency they will reimburse you for all the tests, inspections, etc. and I don't know if CPS will do that. Good luck! Hope your move goes well!

I would guess you'd have to start all over when you got here. There is a chance classes (or some of them) could transfer if they meet the same criteria; but I'd guess most people would want to know that you got their version of it.And I'm *really* glad we have an agency, a large, knowledgeable one, with many, many years experience. Of course, Depelchin is is another that would fit that bill :)
