We finished classes in May and got above and beyond what we needed as far as training hours for the year. My question is do any of those hours roll over? Like can the extras count towards next years hours? Also, are training hours counted as the year you are in...as in, we are good till Jan 1, 2014? Or, are we good till May 2014?
Hope that makes sense. lol
For the agency I am with, we can carryover hours, up to a certain number. Not sure exactly how many can carryover, but I am thinking it is 10.
Ours runs the calendar year. We need 20 training hours a year minimum, if listed as a "Regular Needs" level home. I am listed as a "Moderate Needs" level home, so I have to do 30 each year - that can be a lot. But, some are the same courses every year and we get credit for support groups that do training within them, some can be online or by reading books or watching pre-approved DVDs.

Thanks for the info! So, do we need to get the "new" hours before the year is up? Or will it be within next year that we have to get the 20 or so hours?
You are good for 2013, and you will need to start over for 2014. You will have the full year to get the hours. Certain classes, like the meds training, has to be completed no more than a year after you last took it. That means that you will need to take it by April if you took it in April last year. That's how it works with my agency, at least.
Some hours carry over. Seems to be a discrepancy on how many. Anyway, so some of your hours will carry over (of course, then you'll want to get carry over hours for 2015 so will do above and beyond again in 2014). Each calendar year, you'll get however many hours your agency (and minimum standards, of course) requires. Some hours are done yearly (or every other year). Those would be due about the same time each year. So if you took TMAB in April 2013, you'd be due for it by the same date in April 2014. Of course, you'll probably inch it back each year and 10 years from now will have to get it in February :)
I always suggest newly licensed people start working on those hours. First, because you have to get those hours even though you did your pre-service hours. THat is HARD! Second, because once you get kids, there is already a steep learning curve in terms of taking care of THESE kids, doing paperwork GALORE, jumping through standards hoops, etc. If you have time to get in some hours, DO IT before you have four, six, nine little kids underfoot (and their 1-3 caseworkers, GALs, CASAs, therapists, etc to deal with).

Good grief, you have no idea how much this is making sense right now. lol! Well, actually you do, but ...wow! We have all of the above mentioned workers or baby appts. 2 or 3 days a week at least! This isn't including family visits!

Thank you all! It makes a lot more sense now. Minimum standards just briefly mentions it but I didn't understand timing. I will have to get Hunny and I on top of working on our hours after the holidays!
