I am an eighteen-year-old on the autism spectrum (Asperger's syndrome). When I'm old enough, I want to adopt child or sibling group from foster care. (Something I've thought about and researched about for years, not a whimmy kid thing.) Recently, I saw something that suggests that autistic people have had trouble being approved to adopt based on ableism, but it didn't say more and any attempts to Google for more brought me to stuff about adopting a/Autistic kids (Because Autistic people are kids forever, right? /sarcasm) I decided to ask here, because you guys probably know stuff about adoption and autism both and wonder if you guy have heard of anything like that.
I don't think it hurts to look in to it. I think your problem right now might be age. I'm guessing your at the very high end of Autism. My brothers at the very low end and doesn't talk at all. When your ready I would look into foster/adopt or an adoption agency.

I think the age is 21 to foster. If you can work, live independently, and a doctor will sign that you are able to foster then you will likely get approved. There are a lot of foster kids, parents, and foster parents with disabilities.
