Wondering if anyone can give me a ball park idea of what is involved in a fictive kin homestudy and how long one takes? Suddenly out of the wood work a fictive kin possibility has shown up for the child we have been waiting out ICPC for. The CW wasn't at all clear with me on how in-depth this homestudy will be or what the timeline might be. I know for a fact that bio mom actually LIVES with this fictive kin person but is trying to fool DCFS about that. I know DCFS is suspicious that bio mom lives there. Will they likely do any surprise stop ins? Will the fictive kin person have to have a physical, references, etc like we did for our license or is it just a home inspection? Just not sure what to expect or how long we should plan to wait this out. Thanks in advance for any info.
If you are waiting ICPC, why are they even considering this other person? Arg, the system drives otherwise normal people, crazy.
How long have you been awaiting ICPC?

We started working with DCFS in December. Originally they were submitting ICPC then and then suddenly at the end of February they said we needed to get our foster license first. So we took all the classes, did all the physicals, home visits, etc during March and April and our license was official the end of April. ICPC was submitted May 4.
As far as the why, bio mom got married in April and this new fictive kin is the new husband's mom. The cw seems to believe the judge is ordering the homestudy because bio mom's attorney requested it and judge is worried that denying it could be grounds for issues with termination and appeals. So now we ride out this latest wave. It's all very frustrating...
during our icpc process, a fictive kin was named by J's BM.
According to our GAL, they were required, by law, to consider her.
That meant a background check and a house visit.
However... after stating this, he clarified - considering does not equal "have to choose over another qualified adopter candidate"
They ruled J's fictive kin out in under a week
From what I've heard, last minute fictive kin tends to come up was TPR nears. Its the BPs last attempt to preserve contact.
hang in there
Oh this fictive kin is for sure last ditch effort because mom already said she will relinquish to us before she goes to jail but her attorney convinced her to try this last thing to drag the case out and maybe get baby reunified after jail sentence.
