We've gotten great news. My stepson's half-brother may be coming to live with us. CPS contacted us as placement for him after insisting time and time again when we put in a motion to intervene on behalf of all three siblings; we were willing to keep them together in our home. Of course, this leaves the little sister in the custody of a relative of her fathers. This relative has let us visit for now, but once this relative gets full custody, the visits will probably stop. All signs are pointing to that happening after the next court date.
These half-siblings were removed from their mother's care by CPS for serious reasons.I was a GAL and I don't always agree with CPS decisions, but the removal was legit. However, instead of keeping the sibs together, we left with my stepson and his siblings went into foster care. There was no need for that.We had cared for these children for two years and my husband had been daddy to the oldest boy since the boy was a year and a half.
We're really glad CPS has changed their mind and allowed for the possibility of us taking in the oldest, but this little girl misses her brothers. We've fought hard to get visits established with the kids, and every time we have a visit, this precious little girl tries to climb in our car to go home with us. (I think the relative is getting threatened by this, she wants to adopt.) All three of the children want to live together and miss each other terribly...and both my stepson's sibling called us mom and dad when we took care of them.
I pray that CPS changes their mind about the little girl. We have insisted we would keep all positive family contacts going. These kids deserve to be able to grow up together in a loving home. Or at the very least, the GAL involved in this case makes a recommendation for visits with her brothers. I'm sorry but this whole situation is a crock and three little kids have had to suffer for no good reason.
What really gets me is that so many of our friends just don't know why we even care. They can't fathom that we love all these kids for some reason. They think we should just let both these siblings go because they are not ours by blood.
