HI, I'm just starting to investigate adoption from the Marshall Islands and now I'm confused. I thought that you could adopt in the States and did not need INS clearance. Then I read posts from 2001 that said that had changed and now you DO need to go out of the country? What is the situation now, could anyone tell me?
thanks
Suzanne
The MI program went through some major changes the first of last year. You now have to travel to the Marshall Islands and then to the Phillipines for the baby's visa. Both parents are required to go and the stay is at least 3 weeks.
We were next in line for a infant from the MI when things changed early this year. Do to the situation in the Phillipines, we chose to switch to the Guatemala program.
The last I heard things with the MI program are still pretty much up in the air, not very stable.
