We have been considering adopting our first child as an older child, but I don't want the child to feel as though we selected them from a line of "the most desireable children". I don't want them to feel like we grocery shopped for them and came home with a kid. I want them to know from the bottom of their heart that we chose them, and I want them to be able to choose us, too.
My question is, would it be a possibility to allow the child to see our file before letting them meet us? or to at lest get them a letter outlining our intentions and then meet them before letting them decide whether we were a good fit for them, too? Can the child have any say in the process of choosing who their new parents are?
