What are some fun activities that you've done with your child's birth parents? Sometimes it's hard to find things that are bonding but not too awkward.

You know, I look back (my daughter is 21) and nothing really stands out. We had a very normalized relationship. We were an extended family. We did a lot of things together -- even grocery shop. We celebrated birthdays (ours, her's, her brothers) and even spent some holidays together. We just didn't make it a 'big deal' -- it was more normalized. It wasn't a big deal for me to call and just chat with mom and it wasn't a big deal for her to call me when M was a month or so old and ask me to come over and show her how to trim a babies fingernails.

We had a very successful 'merging of family' -- I wasn't mom, naturally -- but I was a very close personal friend and I think M greatly benefited from that dynamic.
