Searching for Birth Father

I am not adopted but a child born from an affair. My mother doesn't remember his first name but remembers details like last name and possibly what type of work he did. Ive taken a DNA test hoping to find a connection but only have some strong connections on my mother's side. I feel at a loss. Don't know where to go next. Any ideas on where I can search?
