with adoption, the birth father has to give consent for the adoption. Maybe the niece is having second thoughts about relinquishing.
From my understanding, the BFather has already relinquished his rights by signing off on whatever paperwork is required, along with the niece. This was the idea of my friends, not the niece. I've heard the niece say she just wants whatever to happen, happen more sooner than later, so they can make and take him to appointments. The niece most certainly has no thoughts of changing her mind. She just doesn't want to be responsible for the baby nor parent the baby. My friends are doing everything..
I've read that guardianship can take 3.5 months to complete and also read that you cannot start an adoption process if you have an open guardianship case in court. I'm just really confused as to why they would go this route vs adoption. Seems like a waste of time and money. It appears the only "inconvenience" to the niece is just making pediatrician appointments and going with my friend and the baby. Maybe I'm missing something.
