Hi! We’ve had our foster son for 15 months, since he was 20 months old. The permanency hearing was a few weeks ago and the state and the CASA both recommended to change the permanency plan to adoption, naming us as the perspective adoptive parents. Dad’s lawyer brought up at the permanency hearing that grandpa wants to be vetted to adopt our FS (he was given the home study paperwork months ago but never did anything with it). After waiting 2 1/2 weeks foe a decision from the judge, she didn’t really give a decision. She apparently didn’t mention anything about the parents in her “order” but told the state to vet the grandfather and set another court date for next month. Has anyone experienced a similar situation? My thinking is that she’s making them vet the grandfather so he can’t contest an adoption by us and has no intention of ordering reunification with the parents. The social worker says sees never seen an “order” like this and they’re trying to get clarification. In the meantime, I’m a nervous wreck. Grandpa is completely unfit and dad lives with him. He won’t pass a home study.
