Recently found out about the existence and adoption of my child that happened a year ago.

I am in a tough situation and don't know how to navigate. A girl I was seeing ended up getting pregnant and not telling me. Through an agency, she planned adoption before the birth of the child. The child was placed with a family and that was that. This happened over a year we ago and the birth mother only told me this the other day. I had moved on with my life with no knowledge of this. I've been in a relationship for the past year and a half and plan on marrying this woman. She is devasted. The adoption was closed so the mother doesn't know anything about the family. I don't want to take custody of the child. I just want to know if they're okay or at least be able to be contacted by them at some point in the future. I was never given a choice in any of this. I just want to have some idea of what my options are. This happened in the South btw.
