Hi Kim:
After receiving you non-identifying info I would try to use some of it to search. There are clues when searching that lead to other clues and sometimes there are places to look that do not avail info at all. But it is still good to check just in case to rule out that option.
For example if you contact the public library in Greencastle Indiana (Putnam County) and ask to speak to the Reference desk help person. She/he may check the local newspaper that contains the birth announcements for that area. It is many times filed on microfiche. Have the person check your birthdate (usually the announcements are made for a 2 month period so you should be ok if your birthdate was altered. I have not met too many people who did have alertered birthdates. Some have said to check a few days each side of our birthday just to be sure.)
The important clue that you are trying to match is your 10 lbs 8.5 birth weight. That may give you a clue as there may be only one girl born at that birth weight during that period of time. The announcement will have your birth mother's name, possibly. She may have been married since. It may be worth a try even if just to get another clue or to rule out that option. The reference desk employee will ask you to send a self-addressed envelope with usually a $2.00-$4.00 aprox. fee and they will xerox from the microfiche the announcment and mail it to you.
Once you have a name or a high likelihood of a name, you can really go to town. Their are searches you can do on genelogical sites to find out if a relative has died. You could do that with her madien name. You can look in the obituary for that person and find out who and where the surviving relatives live. Many obituaries are online now.
Also, we have a Search Expert right here on adoptionfourms.com that helps to give you the next step in your search. She signs her replies as Search Guru. Here is her forum:
