i'd like to know why the county never sent my adoption records to the state. i'd also like to know if the state is obligated to collect them or can even request that they be sent from the county to the state. it is my understanding that i have only the state dept. of vital records to ask for my adoption records. is this true according to ohio law? can the county probate office release adoption records to me under the ohio law? if so what specifically do i need to show them to prove it to them?
i am concerned that fairfield county adoptees may all be in the same boat as i. it may be that the county never sent the state any of those adoption records.
please help me with some options as i'm at a sticking point in all this. i know the county nurse had a health card on me that said i was adopted. it also said i have a twin sister. she was at the time at another fairfield county school. this was in the early 70's.
if my records are open to me because i was born and adopted before '64 are they open to me on the county level?
thanks,
patty roe
