My husband and I have been going through fertility treatments and finally decided to give up and go through the adoption process. We've been working with our state's DHR. Of course things are going slowly, but more quickly than what we've expected.
All that aside, we've been contacted by a friend who lives in Louisiana (we live in Georgia). She connected us with a young lady (22 years old) who is pregnant and looking to put her child up for adoption.
The woman wants to just give us her child. We have no idea how to handle this situation.
My sister in law had a similar situation occur. A friend of hers had a child that she 'gave' to her. All that she did was sign over guardianship of the child, and years down the road she legally adopted him.
Would this work the same way across states. What do we need to do? I have no idea where to begin with this.
Thanks.
Speak to an adoption attorney! This is potentially a dangerous situation to get involved in. Seek sound, legal advice before you go a step further with her. Good luck though! I hope it works out.
