Why do you have to wait 6 MONTHS in CA for finalization to occur? I think this is an agonizing length of time for the adoptive family when "all the ducks are in a row"? I think this law is ridiculous and should be shortened, even by a few months.
To the best of my knowledge, it is 6 months to a year wait in all states.
This is to make sure that the child and family have settled in well together and that the parents aren't having second thoughts. It also allows the agency that is doing the post-placement visits and assessment to be on-the-spot with any assistance the new family may need.
Parents may have all their legal "ducks in a row", but that's not usually what the wait is about.
Hope that helps!

Thank you very much! Good to hear that it's common for at least 6 months, and that it sounds like it's to ensure the adoptive family is adjusting to the new situation and to help by the agency in anyway if there are any issues. In our case, things are going better than expected. We love our baby so much, we had no idea how wonderful this experience would be. Thank you again for your time and feedback!
