I am wondering if anyone knows what the birthmom friendly states are. I am considering adoption and have recently found out how unfriendly the state (Massachusetts) that I live in is. You are required to go through an agency. I have interviewed four of them and have been shocked at the support (or lack of) that I have been getting. They also told me that none of my expenses will be covered (eg hiring an adoption attorney) unless I show financial need. I definitely don't qualify as needy but I have alot of consumer debt that I am trying to pay off. I just thought when I chose this path that my medical expenses, childbirth classes, and attorney fees would be covered.
So I am considering moving or at least having the baby in a state that is more adoption friendly. I would like to do a private adoption through lawyers where I can get my expenses reimbursed.
Anyone know the laws in other states? From the birthparents point of view?
Thanks!
