Hi. Can a medical problem prevent you from being able to adopt? My cardiologist has advised me not to get pregnant so, my husband and I are looking into adopting.
Most agencies, before accepting you as a client, will require a statement from your doctor saying that you are expected to have a normal life span, and that you are expected to have a normal ability to care for a child.
If your heart condition only interferes in your plans to get pregnant, but does not interfere with daily life, most agencies will not mind.
But if your heart condition keeps you in bed all the time, and you have to be protected from all stress, and you are expected to only live another couple of years, then that would pose a problem.
Have a talk with your doctor and find out what he thinks of your physical ability to care for and raise a child, and find out what he would tell an agency if he were asked.
Good luck!
