I was told by our worker that the state of Florida is in such bad shape that we will most likely loose our subsidy for our adopted child? How can this be?
they just made cuts in our state too, while families are not loosing thier subsidies at this time they are loosing some of the extras, and i am in the process of adopting and they keep reinforcing that just because subsidies are avail today does not mean the will be avail in 10 years. they say there are no garuntees. i stinks but i don't think there is much we can do.

Looks like quite a few states are going through a similar budget crunch and looking at similar ways to reduce the amount of money they spend.
Some aren't touching the subsidy for already-adopted children at all, and some are asking adoptive parents to reevaluate how much of the subsidy payment is actually necessary and let them know if they will accept a reduction. I haven't heard of any states forcibly keeping any of the agreed-upon subsidy amount, but I'm sure that's coming--just like it came to retirement benefits and social security payments.
Mostly what's happening is that states are being more stringent in deciding which children will qualify for a subsidy payment to start with. In several states its been kind of automatic that the parents of certain types of children would receive it, and it won't be that way anymore.
But don't take one worker's word for it - check with other workers, their supervisors, write a letter to your state government representative.
Good luck!
Hi, I havent posted in quite a while, but I did want to say that our state, SC cut our subsidy back about a year ago. Each family in the state that was receiving it, was cut $20.00. I guess they felt that instead of cutting it out completely for some they would just reduce the amount everyone received.

I live in the northeast and we were sent a letter stating that the adoption subsidy for the new adopted children as of this summer will NOT include daycare. They think that if a parent needs daycare and they can't afford it, then they should apply for AFDC (by the way...if you recieve AFDC, then that amount is deducted out of the subsidy...oxymoron!) Good luck.
