Hi, my name is Jenni and my husband posted our question on the Adoption Attorney board, but I thought it would be a good idea to ask here as well.
I am currently working for Microsoft on an L1-B visa (my husband also has obtained US work authorization and works for Washington Mutual bank). My husband (and his twin sister) were adopted (together) and so we are very interested in looking at adopting for our second child (we have a 4 year old son)
However, because we are Canadian Citizens in the US on work Visa's and are in the process of getting green cards we would like to know if it is even possible for us to adopt while we are living in the US considering our current and future residency and immigration status.
Respectfully,
Jenni Merrifield

Hi Jenny:
I know this is an old post but i'll try anyway. Me and my wife are currently in the situation you were. Did you find any way of adopting in the US either domestic or international?. Thanks,
Alan

Yes, you adopt in the US, so long as you adopt in a state that confers the jurisdiction of the court by way of the child's birth.
For example, if your baby is born in Hawaii, you can adopt through the courts here, regardless of where you live or your immigration status.
I am the furthest thing from an immigration expert you could imagine, so I don't know what Canada requires for you to take your child home. But you CAN adopt in the US.
