A young girl that I work with is wanting to give her baby to a couple that
has adopted 4 children. The possible adoptive father has told her that if
he signs the birth certificate as the father, it is legal and easy for them to
adopt. The biological father hasn't supported her throughout the pregnancy, but isn't aware of her plans to allow this couple to adopt thier child. This doesn't seem quite right. The possible adoptive father says that it is perfectly legal.
Does anyone know anything about this?

this is totally ILLEGAL, I believe the reason why the adoptive father would want to do this is to save on adoption cost and possibly even a home study, for if he is portrayed as father then he has paternal rights. meaning the mother of the baby would only be transfering her rights to the biological dad...which is not the case is it. I would never ever do this in the case of my child, what a lie to live with

Decision is right. What you are describing is NOT legal.
Also, It has NO advantages for the birth parents, or for the child.
It eliminates the "change of heart" period for the birthmother, first of all. (If the adoptive father is on the birth certificate, it will be assumed he is the father, and he can do anything with the baby he likes--INCLUDING leaving the hospital with the baby even if the mother is screaming that she doesn't want to go through with the adoption.)
The only advantages are to the adoptive parents, who can avoid fees and paperwork by illegally signing the birth certificate. But quite a lot of those fees and paperwork are there for the purpose of protecting the child and the birth parents.
There are plenty of other, legal, ways for that couple to adopt the child. It can be done even when the birth certificate shows the real birth parents, so there is no reason to go through with illegally signing the birth certificate.
