ADOPTION IN
Cameroon
Cameroon
Cameroon requires prospective adoptive parents to host the child in their home for at least 3 months before issuing an adoption decree. At least one adoptive parent in the couple must be at least 40 years old. However, if the previous stipulation isn’t met, couples must be a minimum of 35 years of age and married for a minimum of 10 years. If neither requirement can be met, the couple must provide medical documentation confirming infertility. All prospective adoptive parents must provide proof of medical and psychological soundness. Singles can adopt with specific age restrictions, but adoption by homosexuals is prohibited, because homosexuality is illegal in Cameroon. All prospective adoptive parents must provide evidence of financial capacity to support the child. In 2011, twenty-three children were adopted from Cameroon.
