AUDEN

from European Union

Auden was born at 28 weeks gestation in November 2019 and spent the first three months of his life in multiple hospital settings. He has been diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia; two congenital heart defects; peripheral pulmonary stenosis; moderate communicating hydrocephalus; retinopathy of a prematurity; and convergent strabismus and is under the observation of several medical specialists. His development is delayed. Auden has good head control and can roll from back to front. He cannot yet sit or crawl. When lying down, he actively moves all four limbs, reaches for objects, and holds and explores them for some time. He responds to visual and auditory stimuli and has noticeably positive reactions when known adults interact with him. A generally calm child, Auden babbles and can remain focused on an activity for a short period. At this time Auden depends on the care of others, including for feeding and hygiene. Auden eats pureed foods from a bottle. He spends his waking hours in a playroom with other children or working with therapists to advance his development.
