Devin from Florida

Easy-going and kind, Devin, 14, enjoys spending time in his own imagination. He loves anime, manga and video games, so it's no wonder he has a keen interest in Japan. He admits it's not just the culture: "the history is very interesting to me." Devin is also fascinated by jiu-Jitsu, a type of Japanese martial arts and subset of techniques that has inspired many other forms like judo or Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Foxes, popular creatures in Japan, noted for their shape-shifting abilities, are his favorite animal - "because they're really cool." Curious and creative, Devin is also open to new challenges. He would love to play organized football and has another big dream: to be an actor one day. Inspired by the popular show "Stranger Things", Devin admits, "Millie Bobby Brown made me want to be an actor." Talented at school, Devin loves science. The most interesting thing he learned this year was about the food chain and food webs connecting all life. Devin was most proud this year to earn an A in Math. To balance his keen imagination, Devin is calm and down to earth, happy with simple pleasures. His favorite day is simply a day at the beach. His friends would call him funny and "a good guy." All he wants is "a family that is fun." Until he is comfortable, Devin can be shy, but as his caretakers agree, "with the right family, he is sure to open up."
