I wish someone from Ottawa would come onto this chat. I am looking for my dads birth mom. She was an accomplished pianist in Ottaw when he was born in October 1960. She also worked for the government as a secretary. Someone has to know somthing.

Alisha, I was born in 1959, supposedly my birth parents are from Quebec, My grandmother made my mother come to NYC to have me because back in the day it was a disgrace to have a child out of wedlock. Supposedly my grandfather owned a department store called Ogilve's? I'm not usre if I'm spelling that right. She was 19 at the time and I was given up right at birth. From what I've learned she supposedly died 3 yrs after I was born. Not sure if any of this information is correct. I will keep my eyes open when reading if there is naything that might help you, could you do the same for me? Thanks Jane

You could search the history sites for Ogilvies. I'm pretty sure this is how you spell it. This might give you some leads to past owners and their family members. I think this is the key to finding out where your family is. Maybe you'll come across a picture of him on the site that looks just like you??? I will keep my eye open, I think I've hit every site on the web! Good luck, and keep in touch.

Jane have you checked this board? http://www.execulink.com/~masstadon/ I have a LOT of links that I have found for Canada. This is a really good search tool: http://www.birthfamily.com/sitesearch.htm you can search just the adoption engine or the web. What was your grandfathers name? Why I ask is my mom is a web developer and she is extremely good at finding everything and ANYONE on the Internet. She found articles about my grandfather on the Internet and we didn't even know he was on the net.
Please send me any names you have and I will get my mom to give her expertise in the search for info. I have a feeling we will find something?
Talk to you soon

I appreciate the help. I believe my grandfather would have been Ayard Nesbith, not sure if the spelling of the last name is correct. From what I've been told my mother had a brother, supposedly he's a lawyer now. I've been told that my mother died about 2-3 years after i was born. My main reason for contact is for health. I've had cancer and numerous surgeries. I desparately need info on my family for the health of my children. Any chance you may know this family? My grandfather was a Brigadire General in the army according to info my adopted mother had. And that he owned Olgivies Department Store. My father was someone known to the family but not acceptable for my mother to marry and have a family. Anything would be most appreciated.
Jane
Hi, Gord here, If your grandfather was military you could try the National Archives of Canada.
Military records are kept at :
ATIP Division
395 Wellington Street
Ottawa Ontario
K1A 0N3
Canada
I'm not sure how much they will give you but you may get them to forward a letter or even get a current mailing address for him.
Good Luck
Gord G.
