Dear Pippa,
Welcome to the forum. You are definitely in the right place. I am the mother of two boys that we adopted and remember what that was like when I first decided I was ready to consider adoption. "Where do I start?" I suggest you look in the yellow pages and contact some adoption agencies in your area. They can send your their information packets and you can go from there. Also, we used Bethany Christian Services and they have offices all over the U.S. You can find the office nearest you on their website and they will be more than happy to send you an information packet. You also need to decide what kind of adoption you want to go for, i.e. domestic, international, infant, older child, different race, etc. As you collect information and search your heart those decisions will come in time. Just remember there is no fast and easy adoption process. Anyone that promises you that is not being honest with you. You can also contact an adoption attorney and ask for an information packet. Beware of anyone that wants all their fees up front before they will start working with you. I also suggest staying away from those that are strictly internet based organizations where you can't talk to someone face to face. Hope this helps and godspeed in your endeavors.

Hi, I'm Yash from LA! My husband and I started the adoption process by talking about where we would like to adopt from. We were both apprehensive about adopting domestically and didn't feel comfortable doing the fost/adopt thing so we decided to adopt internationally. We talked about which countries we were opened to adopt from and then I jumped on the internet with the knowledge of the countries and the fact we wanted to adopted if possible from a Christian agency. I received information from tons of adoption agencies and careful went through the information. I then selected my top choices and gave them to my husband to read over. We attended a few adoption seminars. I started reading adoption books like crazy. We finally selected an agency though it wasn't a Christian one, we felt comfortable with. While visiting one of my best friends, this summer, she put me in contact with one of her good friends who is an adoptive mom and works for an adoption agency. I spoke with her friend, Kim. Kim is great, plus the agency she works for while not Christian, 90% of their staff is, including the owners. I liked the fact that Kim's agency is small and the contact is more personable.
That's the tale of how my husband and I started our adoption process.
God luck!
