I attended an adoption intro meeting last a couple of nights ago and also got a chance to call and talk to a home study coordinator. I did discuss my concerns about anxiety meds up front because I didn't want to begin a process that I couldn't finish.
I was told that as long as my doctor would write a letter indicating that I was capable of parenting, that my condition would not prohibit me from adopting. I am so thrilled. Of course, I know that there's no guarantee in domestic adoption that you will ever get a child if a birthmother doesn't choose you. But, at least I know that I can look forward to starting the process.
I'm thinkinig that I would like to do my homestudy around year-end. I'll be 40 then. On the one hand, I'd like another year to save money and such. But I know it can take a couple of years to get a placement. It's hard to plan when occasionally you hear of someone getting selected by a birthmother just a few months after their homestudy is done.
Also, I was hoping to take the Adoption Tax Credit as I go, which you can do with domestic adoption. So many things to consider, it's mindboggling.
Well, I'm on to reading info on homestudies!!!!
