Stress is inherent in parenting and single parents sometimes experience more stress as they try to meet the needs of their children and take care of themselves without another parent to share the load. If you feel stressed, it is not a sign that you are an inadequate parent - it just comes with the territory. Here are some suggestions for managing stress:
-Learn to budget finances and get the child support you are entitled to
-Look to neighbors for support and build a support system with them
-Find out if your employer is supportive to working parents and what benefits might be offered
-Establish routines at home to organize meals, bedtimes, household chores and have the kids pitch in
-Plan ahead for child care when school is cancelled if you are a working parent
-Anticipate responses to upsetting situations and plan how to respond
-Respect your child's individuality and realize each child is his/her own person even though they might remind you os someone else
-Take time for yourself to replenish your energy!
