My husband and I have been doing research, and have decided to adopt from Georgia. We have not started the process yet, other than lots of research!
I guess the next step is to choose our agency. Any suggestions?
Has anyone heard of any new information/updates on Georgian adoptions?
Does anyone have an idea of a current time frame (start until finish) for an infant girl? Is there a longer wait for <6 months old?
Also, does anyone have an estimate on TOTAL costs (including travel expenses)?
Any information would be appreciated! Thank you!

We are currently in the process of adopting thru Georgia. We researched agencies alot, checked with the Better Business bureau, states that the agencies were in, websites, and personal referrals. That is how we chose our agency. The main ones that are in Georgia are 1st Steps Internation (www.kids4us.org), Carolina Adoption (www.carolinaadoption.org.), Adoption Pros (ww.adoptionpros.com), CASI (www.adoptcasi.org). AAI was another one but I heard their program was on hold.
Each agency will have a different waiting time depeding on the amount of couples in the program. Our agency currently states from the time of completed dossier can be anywhere from 3-7 months. Generally though once the dossier is received in Georgia, our agency has been seeing referrals from 1-4 months. Some agencies will have girl/boy waiting lists, some will just have one waiting list--if you get referred a boy and you want a girl you can turn it down and wait for a boy--it doesn't bump you donw the list.
If you choose an agency not in your state you will need an agency to do your homestudy in your state, your adoption agency shouldbe able to refer youto someone reputable.
The newer news is that you no longer need to go thru the consolate in Moscow to come home, you can use the consolate in Georgia, so it helps cut thr trip a little. As far as the stay depending on your agency you will either be in a hotel (Marriott or Sheraton) or a home or apartment stay. It is only one trip. Our agency tells us to plan for anywhere from 5-10 days. There are not flights out of Tbilisi daily, so that can be a hang up.
We currently completed our homestudy and are now working on our dossier, so we hope to be travleing by next spring.
Hope that helped, let me know what else I can tell you!

we went with 1st Steps. I liked that they are small (more personal attention), I like that they limit the number of people in their program, I heard wonderful things and have met people who used them and brought their babies home. They are also in my state, so it was great that they could od the homestudy as well.
I too am using !st Steps and I also live in PA. I'd really like to be able to talk since we are using the same agency. we have just started our home study. email me if you like at bellarudy@msn.com
