Hello all.
I am a member of the Church, have been through the temple, etc. My husband is not a member. Since I live 20 miles from my branch, I though I would ask this here *grin* Does LDSFS allow for part member familes to adopt through them?
Thanks!

KZacharyC is correct. You do have to be sealed to each other and you both must have current temple recomends. I agree also that there are many other great agencies out there you can work with. I wish I had some info to help you find one, but I know that there are many great suggestions in these forums. Good luck on you adoption journey I wish you the BEST!
:) Joy!
Well, that's just a bummer. But I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions :) And I hope it's ok if I stay on the board even though we're not a full member family. Like I said, I was born and raised in the church, have been through the temple. But my husband, great guy that he is, is not a member. He "understands" the BofM and really likes the church. He just has a "hard time", as he puts it, with JS. Time will tell, I'm sure. My boys are being raised LDS as that is the most normal church we have out here in the boonies. LOL. And DH goes to church with me. You'd think he was LDS if you didn't know any better. Seriously. My Sunday School teacher called him the best non-member member he'd ever met. LOL.
Ok..enough rambling. Thanks for the input. We're looking at a trio of 3 girls from the NWAE. That would make us a family of 5...oy! But something is drawing me to these girls. I just hope we can get the paperwork done quickly. Too bad they can't put them on "layaway".....
*hugs*

LDSFS is great for infant adoptions and because there is so much available to the birth parents, and it is less costly than other infant agencies but for sibling groups and older child adoptions, it is easier and less costly to adopt through the state....sometimes they even pay all your costs.....I am doing LDSFS for infant adoption first but, we decided last night that eventually we will start adopting through the state, as there are so many kids in desperate need of permanent homes. Plus they come with an instruction manuel...LOL!
Good luck and of course you can keep posting here!
Hello,
Of course you can keep posting here, you are LDS. Part member or not does not make a difference to us! I actually gre up in a part member home much like yours where my mom was the non member but a lot of people did not know because she went to church with us every week. AFter 25 years, she finally joined and it was wonderful!
The above posts are all correct, you do have to be sealed to go through LDS FS. However there are a lot of agencies out there and plenty of children, so just keep looking at other avenues.
We wish you the best!

Part of LDSFS requirements for adoptive parents is that after the adoption is finalized, you need to have the child sealed to your family within 6 months. If the parents are not already sealed, then they cannot have a child sealed to them. It's kinda complicated. There are several agencies that are owned by LDS members that follow most of the same rules, but the sealing part is not a requirement. Good Luck!!
