I would like to share our experience. We adopted a 10-week-old boy from Georgia in August of this year. Our agency was Carolina Adoption Service.
I have had many very negative experiences with CAS, and I would like to share one of them.
When we adopted our son, we were told he was perfectly healthy. In fact, we paid for an extra visit to the doctor when we were in Georgia (arranged by CAS) in which the doctor once again said our son was perfectly healthy.
However, when we got back to the US, our son was immediately diagnosed with a cleft palate -- a birth defect that takes years to be treated and can be easily diagnosed at birth. A cleft palate can be diagnosed by simply looking inside the child's mouth.
When we addressed this with CAS, they said "the child had no visibly medical conditions and was asymtomatic."
When I look into our son's mouth, I can see that he has a cleft palate. He has trouble eating (the formula often gets in his nose) and he will have to go through a surgery followed by months of speech therapy.
