Terri, A similar thing happened to us, although we never knew if it was fraud, or just the birthmother hadn't told the birthfather and took us for whatever money she could until we wouldn't give her anymore. We never heard from her again and lost $2,000.00. As difficult as that was emotionally and financially, we kept going and are now matched with a beautiful young woman who we love dearly. Our baby is due in just a few weeks. You did nothing wrong. These people obviously knew what they were doing and how to take advantage of trusting people. Because you are not a criminal it's hard to think like one. You would never use a child for financial gain and cannot imagine someone else doing it. That's why you were a victim, not because you did anything wrong, but because you could not believe someone would do something like that. I am just so grateful these people were arrested. No doubt there would have been other victims had they not been. I wish you must luck in your future adoption plans. I hope your dream is fulfilled one day soon.
