Hi, my name's Ellie and I was born on March 6, 1986 in Oceanside, NY. I was adopted on April 10, 1986 at exactly five weeks of age through Spence-Chapin. In about 4 months I'm going back to NY (i now live in South Carolina) to turn in my reunion registration to try and find my birthmother, but want to get a head start! My birthmother's name was Carol Ann and she had a twin brother. She was 24 at the time of my birth, and had written me 5 letters which I have safely tucked away in my room. In one she says I was the first baby she ever held. If any of this sounds familiar to you or applies to anyone you know, i would greatly appreciate the help, or if you just want someone to talk to go ahead and contact me! I'm 17 years old and into all kinds of art with some other stuff mixed in. (I also know that my birthmother loved to draw, paint, and read) I have 14 pets (my birthmother also loved animals) and my a-mom founded an animal rights group down here on Hilton Head Island! Sorry this is so long, it's late and I'm rambling! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Have you contacted Spence- Chapin? Do they have a Post Adoptive Services Department that will help you?

Non-identifying informationӔ is information from the adoption file about the birth parents. It generally includes ages, marital status, states of birth, education, religion, occupations and a physical description of the birth parents. It should also include the reason for relinquishment and may include information about aunts, uncles and grandparents. It is called non-identifying informationӔ because it does not include any identifying information such as names, addresses or social security numbers. If you are an adoptee and already have your non-identifying information but it is information given to your adoptive parents at the time of your adoption you should re-apply for the non-identifying information. Agencies are giving out much more comprehensive information now that they did in the past.
The Mutual Consent RegistryӔ is a registry where adoptees and birth parents can register the adoption information. If both parties register normally the agency responsible for the registry will notify both parties that consent has been given to contact each other. Adoptees must have been born AND adopted in New York to use this registry.
