Hey,
My DH and I just got a referral for a 28 month old boy in Panama. We requested possibly adopting 2 children because our paperwork is done for two and we really felt that we should look into it, we told the agency we wanted a baby 6 m. and younger, but our agency had this little guy in waiting so discussed him with us and we fell in love with him right away. We are so excited:) We are hoping to travel the first part of December. This happened much quicker than we thought. I've read on other places in this sight that people requested one age and got another, that was true for us too, I guess God really is in control:)
I was wondering for those of you who did adopt from Panama and those who plan to soon, any good recommendations of hotels? I have read Panama is a fairly safe place, so maybe there are many places to stay, I thought you all could give some good insight.
Congratulations to all the new families and for all those in waiting you are in my thoughts and prayers each day-Remember God truly has a greater plan,
TanyaB
TanyaB..Congratulations on your referral! We are hoping for a referral of a little boy the same age as yours. (We just sent in our dossier.)
I think when we go, we will probably stay at the Country Inn and Suites in Panama City. That's where I always try to stay when I travel in the US. They are very clean and nice, usually new. The one in Panama City looks nice from the photos, has an outdoor pool to take your little guy swimming. The internet rate shows $49 a night and that includes a continental breakfast. There is also a full-service restaurant. If you want to check it out, go to www.countryinns.com.
On another note, how long did it take to get your referral? What kind of info did you get?
Congratulations again, and I hope you travel soon!

We stayed at the Country Inn Suites when we travelled to Panama. There are two locations. One is fairly new and very nice the other is older but stil nice. The older one is small and the manager has lived in Seattle for 10 years so his English is superb. The employees are very accomodating. They are both in good areas. The newer one is by the newly renovated former US base which is a very nice area. The older one is more in a strip mall type area. We felt very safe at the older one and great hospitality. The newer one is more expensive to stay at, it is all in what you are looking for. Hope this helps.:)
TanyaB,
That's wonderful news...so glad it was a quick wait for you. Do you know if you will have to take 1 or 2 trips?
Julie
Julie,
They said they "hoped" to do it in one trip, but no one has said that is what is going to happen 100% we hope to find out more this week:)
TanyaB
Tanya,
Congratulations to you! How exciting that you'll travel so soon!
I have a few timeline questions for you.
From the time Commonwealth called you to see whether you were interested in the referral to the time you actually received photos and medical information, how long did it take? When did you accept your referral and how long did it take to get a tentative travel date?
We've been waiting two weeks since we said we were interested in information about a 10 month old boy. The wait is driving me crazy!
How do you feel about the information you received? Was the medical information very detailed?
Any information you can provide is most welcome. With such a new program it seems hardly anyone has any answers!
Thanks,
Rebecca

Those are great questions!! Could you provide the same information about your situation as it unfolds!
Thanks
jane
Rebecca,
We got our referral rather quickly and we also go a very brief medical report. As far as travel date, we thought Dec. 1 but that has now changed (I'm sure due to the holidays:( we are hoping the first of the year to go. Have you heard when you will be going? I am right with you, the waiting bites big time. I keep reminding myself this is in God's hands not mine, because I truly have no control over what happens, I can only pray in all works out. Let me know when you think you may get to travel, we may be there the same time.
Take care,
TanyaB
Every year of our adoption, barely ANYTHING got accomplished during these two months due to the endless stream of govt./national holidays....
And.... if I recall correctly..... there is a "zone" where judges typically take their vacations.
Our adoption got MOVING big time after January 1 - things ZOOMED along then, but not in NOV or DEC.
:D
Hang in there!
I just wanted to thank all of you who take the time to tell about your journey through this new program. I'm actually still in the early stages and all the information I've read has been so helpful.
Congradulations on your referrals and I will continue to read the forum daily.:)

Kim,
Thanks for the encouragement, I guess we have been pretty down lately, but I did feel better after you post. I still hold strong to God's plan, but it is nice to know the gov. of Panama gets things going in jan. to help him along:)
I will keep you all posted when we know more, I guess this gives me more time to learn spanish and make all those great panama dishes:)
Take care,
Tanya
