I am considering foster parenting and am wondering how the state views homeschooling. Does anyone homeschool the kids in their care? Thanks
I was allowed to homeschool children placed for adoption before the final hearing, but it's my understanding that Mo requires children in foster care to attend public or private schools. There may be special circumstances that would allow homeschool, but since foster care is suppose to be temporary, continuing in public/private school would seem to make the transition easier.

Hello, I homeschool our bio children. However, that is not a choice we have with foster children in Missouri. Our local DFS supervisor did advocate to have a foster child homeschooled and had it approved for about six weeks. This was a grandparent placement and at the time was considered in the best interest of the child. After the fc caught up, she returned to public school.
Look at it this way, if the goal is reunification, it might not be in the best interest of the children to be homeschooled in the foster home, only to return to public school in the bios home. Not only would the child have to transition back to his/her bios home, but also into a regular classroom setting.
