I am new here wanted to say hi.....have a couple questions about homestudy.
Do you have to go thru the state agency to do a home study?
Are there private homestudy companies/social workers who can get the process over with quicker? In Texas if you go thru the state you have to go to classes for 12 weeks to get certified. I wouldnt mind doing that, except my dh is going overseas in 10 weeks and I know he must be present for the classes if we go thru the state.
Thanks for any replies
I'm not in Texas, but most states work similarly at this point. So let me separate a few things for you.
First of all, a homestudy is a homestudy and the classes are classes. They don't have to be done at the same time, or by the same people (if there are multiple people authorized to do either of them). They just both have to be completed and turned into the state in order for the state to certify you to adopt from foster care.
A homestudy involves personal talks with a social worker, a bunch of paperwork, a visit to your house, a safety check, etc. Then the social worker writes up a report about your family.
The classes involve real classes - with a group of people and an instructor, and sometimes a test.
So finding someone else to do a homestudy won't get you through the classes faster. They're separate things, and both are required. It will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get completely certified to adopt in the 10 weeks before your husband leaves.
I wish you luck!
