We are an interacial couple (Husband African American, Wife Caucasian) and have decided to submit our aplication March 1st, 2004....the problem is we don't know which agency to go through. We are in Montgomery County, and have received packets from a couple different agencies both local and out of state.
We are looking for a newborn - 2 years old. We are more incline to go through a private agency, and are looking to adopt domesticly.
We had been referred to Bethany CHristian - but then read several post that painted a very negative picture...now I have read very glowing posts of Adoptions Together.
We thought about going through DSS, but the chances of finding a child that young is very rare.
Any feedback is requested.
We adopted through Adoptions Together and we were pleased. We adopted an older child from foster care. They have offices in Baltimore and Silver Spring.

We adopted through Barker Foundation located in Cabin John, Maryland. They are an absolutely wonderful agency and I highly recommend them. We are also an interacial couple and Barker stated that they get a lot of bi-racial babies. We brought our daughter home December 23rd.:D

HI there,
I can't figure out how old this post is so I will post anyways. We adopted from Adoptions Forever out of Rockville MD. All that I can say is that they are the most wonderful agency! I couldn't reccommend them more.

thank you all for replying....
we have packets from Barker, bethany, and Adoptions together....re: adoptions together there seemed to be alot of emphasis on the adoptive parents being responsible for finding the birth mother themselves...is that the norm for agencies?
also we will check on the one in rockville too.
Any suggestions of how to fund adoption?
I know the tax credit will help at the end, but as far as coming up with the money to begin with.
Adoptions Forever takes care of everything for you. THey find the birthmoms etc. You just pay the agency fees and they will take care of you. Some agencies are more just facilitators and others do everything. Good question when you are looking into the agency that is best for you.
best of luck,
Bevy

Aronya,
I am so excited to see you on the forum! I have been mostly on the Russian/International side of things, but found Maryland today in the hopes of building relationships with local adoptive families.
I just wanted to say don't give up! You will find the right path to build your family.
Also, I will PM you about agencies. I think the new rules prohibit posting names anymore.;)
