My husband and I decided about 6 months ago to adopt our first child. He is 44 and I am 34. It is impossible for us to conceive due to Medical History.
The problem is this. My husband made a HUGE mistake last summer (june 03) and was arrested for DUI. That is the only thing on his criminal record in 44 years and nothing on mine. We are both law abiding citizens that did something really stupid.
We have our home study this weekend where we will go over the application that asks for that info and want to be up front with our case worker.
I guess I'm just trying to prepare myself in case this is going to keep us from adopting.
Any insight?

We were up front and honest all the way with our social worker. She has no problem with my dh's criminal record of DWI & a one time, (on a dare), shoplifting because it happened over 15 years ago. However it has stopped us from qualifying us to adopt from the country of Russia. We are now in the process of determining if Guatemala will overlook the minor charges and proceed from there. If Guatemala rejects us then our only alternative for adoption is to go U.S. private adoption or foster/adopt. This situation has given us quite the roller coaster ride! My dh feels so bad that his bad judgement, many years ago, has given us so much grief. I am trying to maintain that if it is meant to be it will work out and somewhere there is a child out there waiting for us to love.
