Tanya,
If I might ask what agency are you using? I am just cuious. We are with World Partners and I'm wondering if they are going to call with a referral one day with a child that is not legally abandoned.
Roger
Hi Roger,
We are working with commonwealth adoption. I think if you ask one very large question with your agency, well two, first what is the legal status of the child in the DNA, and have the parental rights been terminated. Number one will allow you to know that a match has been made within the gov. and number two will let you get a bit of an idea for timelines. Have you discussed this concern with your agency and your fear of it happening? If so what was their answer? I was just wondering what their thoughts are on it. I would love to say what happened to us will not happen to anyone else, but I can't. This situation was not agency specific. This situation is also not country specific, it can and does happen with other countries too. It's rare but it can happen. Our situation was very rare mostly because the child was so much older. It is an adoption hazard, one you hope and pray doesn't happen to you. I do know that the above two questions are the first out of my mouth now. I am afraid to say this and I hate to say it, but Panama is a new program so only time will tell what will happen with referrals. I truly believe that agencies are feeling out the process better now and are aware of the dangers of loosing a referral AND are trying there hardest to protect us. I hope this answered your questions a little anyway, I wasn't real sure what you meant by "legally abandoned" do you mean their parental rights are terminated? If you did, as I said before ask and ask until you get an answer, and an explanation on what happens next. Than email us all and explain it to us:)
Keep your Faith,

Tanya,
Thank you for the information. I have not spoken with the agency about this yet but will. As soon as I do I'll let you know what they said.
