Hi,
Here are some productive strategies to help when you feel angry ~
1. Take a time out or wait until you regain control ... this role models for children, how to respond rather than react when you are angry.
2. Use 'I' messages ... 'I'm mad ... not you are bad'.
3. Stay in the present - don't dredge up ancient history ... don't say 'Your report cards are always bad.'
4. Avoid threats and physical force.
5. Stay brief and to the point ... 'homework before TV' works better than a lecture.
6. Put it in writing - a short written message can be effective and calming.
7. Focus on the essential, and be flexible.
8. Restore good feelings ... we all lose it sometimes but take time to discuss things calmly after the anger subsides.
What would you add to this list?
