Hi everyone,
I have been a Church member for 7 years. We have an adopted son who is almost 5. He is sealed to us. It is wonderful!
I would like to better understand the blessings of being sealed to parents. It is hard to find much written on it. I have come across people saying things like, If you are sealed to your children, then, if you remain worthy, you will be able to influence their lives even if they go astray or if you die.Ӕ Your wayward children will come back to the Church if you are sealed to them and remain worthy.Ӕ Children who are sealed have the RIGHT to be raised by worthy parents, even if itӒs not the parents they have on earth.
Does anyone know of any good references on this topic? Thanks.
Gail
I don't have any references, but I talked to my bishop at leangth on the subject. He is an adoptive parent also. He said that when you are sealed to a child, the child is as if he was born to you. In the Lord's eyes, it is no different than if you had given birth to him. The blessings are that the child is born under the covenant. Therefore, if he remains worthy, he will recieve all the blessings of the covenant through you, even if you don't remain worthy of exaltation. I would look up "Blessings of the Covenant" if I were you to gain more insight. Good luck!

Dear Gail,
Good name!
Please remember that the sealing ordinance is and eternal requirement so that families can be together in the next life.
This special sealing key not only binds worthy families together for eternity, but it helps remind us to live our lives worthily. But it doesn't bind satan from influencing us or our children. (If anything, he will try harder to encourage us to stray).
The most important thing to remember is that those families / parents who choose not to be sealed, or those born in the covenant who choose to stray from the church, are jeopardizing their eternal lives as families.
Our adopted granddaughter will be sealed to her new parents next summer, and I am joyfully looking forward to adding her to our family tree for ever and always!
