My husband and I are just starting the adoption process through LDSFS. We were told that we might have a hard time because my husband is in the military. Has anyone adopted or know someone who has adopted through LDSFS who has been in the military? Any Information would be great!!
Hi,
Good luck on your journey of adoption. I am not familiar with LDS FS and the military, but honestly I would think it would be easier with LDS FS than with some other agencies because FS is worldwide and if you have to move, you can just transfer offices and recertify a few things, like they would need to come and recertify your home study since you are in a new home.
Actually, once you have filled out all the initial paperwork and finished the homestudy, it just becomes a waiting game. If you are dilligent with the paperwork and get it turned in quickly, you could probably go start to finish on the paperwork inless than 2-3 months and then be approved. So even if you are only going to be in a place for a year or two, you could still get it done pretty quickly. you might also want to post this question on hopetoadopt.com because I know some of those adoptive and prospective adoptive moms have moved or transfered during the process.
Good luck!

My former husband and his wife are picking up their new adopted daughter today at the hospital! They are LDS,in the military, and went through LDS Family Services to adopt. His military life doesn't seem to have been a problem for them at all. They have been waiting for about a year now so it wasn't too long--but long enough, I am sure.
Hi,
My husband is in the military (Army) and we wanted to adopt using LDSFS. Being in the military isn't such a problem, but where you're stationed is. If you're in the US, or another country which has LDSFS offices, it should be relatively easy. We're stationed in Germany which does not have an office. Our options were to have a social worker do a home study here in Germany and also travel back to the US for the LDSFS part of the homestudy. We would also have to be able to travel back to the US on short notice if a child became available. Another option was to travel to England and use the office there. That, however, turned out to be too complicated (American parents living in Germany adopting from England...a real red tape nightmare). What we ended up doing was finding an LDS birthmother in the US who wanted a more open adoption than LDSFS would allow at the time, and we adopted her baby privately.
Good Luck!
