I am looking for references for agencies that will facilitate the adoption of a hispanic or mixed race (hispanic/caucasian) newborn girl. I am in the initial stage of the process and collecting information. I've been told that hispanic infants are rarely placed for adotion in the greater DC metro area, where I live.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
Honestly, I've found that most domestic parental placement situations happen through personal networking and searching rather than agency efforts. Have you considered searching outside the DC area, perhaps in areas with a higher hispanic population or areas with a strong military presence?
Agencies I find are most valuable in the support they provide during both the pre- and post-placement time, as well as their ability to handle the 'tough' questions once you've made a connection (proof of pregnancy, etc.).

Not to take anything away from Tobeafamily, but, the DC/VA/MD (MDW) area is a great place for AA/Bi-racial or Hispanic placements. There is a large population of both Hispanics and African Americans. Additionally, the DC area is teeming with military folks and installations. So, Growingfamily, I believe you are definitely looking in the right place. When we first started looking, I went to the yellow pages. There are so many agencies out there and they can tell you what percentages of certain races they deal with. Best of luck in your quest.

Vern - honestly, I'm not familiar with the demographics of the DC area so you didn't offend at all - just suggesting that wherever they search, make sure it has a good sized hispanic community and/or strong military presence. Didn't want them to 'limit' themselves to only their local area, regardless of demographics or what they're told by others.
