As it looks as though the military forum doesn't get a huge audience, I'll give this another try here.
Please, does anyone know where I might be able to find details of deaths in service, of US military personnel in the UK post WWII period? Not in SSDI!
I am looking for the death of an airman probably still stationed in England (somewhere in or near the county of Essex?) sometime between mid 1947 and early 1949 (ie conception and finalisation of the adoption). But I suppose he could have been moved on by then.
It seems there was a tendency for the American forces in Europe to ship their people back home and proclaim them dead whenever an issue of paternity arose. Has anyone else heard that or found it to be so?

Just raising this up the list, surely someone must have some ideas on this. There were more than a few GI fathers of kids in the UK duering the cold war period
