My husband and I are wishing to adopt internationally and were hoping to adopt a child from the Republic of Georgia. However, I have read on a few websites that they have closed this country to international adoptions. Does anyone know if this is still currently true? And if so, how long will it be closed? Is this permanent or temporary? Any info anyone has on adoptions through the Republic of Georgia would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Angela,
There are a couple of other threads that have some information about this topic that you might want to check out. It is true that Georgian adoptions were closed for at least several months. If you want a current update, your best bet is to call one of the agencies that has been working there and ask.
I spoke with one of the agencies about 2 months or so ago. At that time they said they were expecting Georgia to begin allowing international adoptions again, but that it would no longer be possible to adopt a very young infant. They reported that the process was going to become more like other countries in the area. The children will be required to be on a registry for several months before being available for international adoption. It might still be a great place to adopt from, but my understanding is that it will be impossible to adopt an infant under 6 months.
Good luck!

Does anyone have any recent experience with Georgian adoptions?
The above two posts were very helpful but are dated now.
Is it open again? What is the new age range? Timeline?
Thanks!
