Hi everyone ! Several of us have been posting under anyone in PA? or anyone interested in support groups... I thought It might be a nice idea to introduce ourselves.. give a little info about where we are in the adoption process... and where we are from.. (and hopefully we can get this PA adoptive parents site rolling a bit and make some new friends :)
Here goes ! I am one of the " older" adoptive moms... 46 years old now...single... and my daughter is almost 10 months old.. and I adopted her at birth...
I signed up with an adoption agency mid June of 2000... I went for training... homestudy was done in Oct. of 2000 and waited.. and waited.. and waited !! Until I got a phone call one day (June of 2003) that my little girl was born.. :) I live in PA, used an agency out west and adopted from down south !
I have been a member on the forum since Jan. 2004 and have learned so much, met wonderful people and would love to get a play group/support group together in the King of Prussia or surrounding areas... I live about 1/2 hour from there, but thought that would be a good location from the city and include some suburbs...

babsjpmom LOL! You are not alone! my dH is 51 and I am 46. This is dH's 1st marriage...we've been married for 2 1/2 years! We are adopting through Children and Family Services--and there are no kids already in our home ;) ! You will always find people better off than you...and then there's us!! LOL
Is it ever too late to make a lifelong dream come true? As long as we are able we will pursue this dream.
Ps... Have you read about Tony Randall?? (kidding)

tGb- is that in Media? If so, that is where I had my training as part of my homestudy ! Great people there!
I would love to get together with everyone. I work during the week... but have a somewhat flexible schedule... The week after the 19th is rough for me.. as my darling little girl is going to be one year old that week.. and I am having a huge party for her on the 26th... I have people coming in from out of state... so the week after will be better for me... but if you set something up.. I will do my best to be there :)
Maybe we could meet and also discuss planning the big picnic in Valley Forge Park for September? Could we meet at the park to do this? There are several people who have expressed an interest in this... (including parents to be) so what would be better for the meeting? During the week or on the weekends? Maybe come up with a committee of people? Anyone interested in helping plan the September picnic ? I could use some help :) Thanks!

Babspjsmom: dH and I attended our first "Dessert Match" at Lycoming College in Williamsport. It was rather dissappointing, and clearly showed us that we are at the very beginning stages of adoption....finishing our MAPP classes next week. I guess we will start homestudy meetings after that. I believe we may have been the only ones there that didn't have a homestudy :(
On the brighter side, taking a trip to the other side of the state sounds refreshing! dH and I have birthdays in September...and I do tend to celebrate my birthday for a month or more... :))

Hi everyone, Im from Pa too, my hub and I have been working with a agency in town for the last past year,we are trying to adopt with SWAN, we would like adopt to age 12, and not much like, we have had problems with our agency, and the social worker, I have inquired about over a hundred children, and maybe a lead or two, but nothing pans out, so I decided to take matters in my own hands, and educating myself about being my own advocate, so if hear see a child on the Pa website, I will call and find out, and try to do most of the leg work myself! We are going to the State's matching brunch this month, all of Pa counties are there with children avalible for adoption! And we are looking into a foster care agency, and out of state adoption, Im looking at different options. International adoption is our for us right now!
Well any ideas or suggestions! Love to hear from anyone, just pm with your experiences good or bad!
Regards,
