I am a 28 year old adoptee. Recently, my adoptive mother told me my birthname...Nickoletta Michelle Johnson. The conversation that followed made me stop and think - what's really in a name? You see, my adoptive name was Carson. My a-grandmother was originally a Johnson until she married my a-grandfather and became a Rodgers (which is my a-mom's maiden name). Her mother (my great grandmother) was a Rogers until she married and became a Johnson. My husband's (oh...who by the way is a Johnson and is the name which I carry again) grandmother was also a Rodgers. She never took the Johnson name, but all of her kids did, and in turn, their kids were named Johnson's. Anyway, long story short, at the end of this confusing conversation, all my a-mother could say was "Well, I guess it was your destiny to be a Johnson!" Makes you stop and think about what's really in a name?
