We live in Moon and are picking up our new son tomorrow :D . He is going to be 15 next week and will get to spend his birthday with us! We would love to talk to adoptive parents in the area because we are relatively new here and don't have a large support network yet.
Are there any other folks who have adopted older children in western PA?

I am also from Pittsburgh, Penn Township, near Murrysville Pa. I have had my new daughter home with me for two months. She has just turned 16 and we are in the adjusting process. It has been quite an experience, one that no classes or books can completely prepare you for. We've had some ups and downs, but nothing that we can't work on. She is a wonderful child. We're moving toward finalization in October if all goes well with the tpr. NJ
Hey!!
If anyone lives in the Erie area we have a new support group forming. It is for people who have adopted, are doing foster care, or just in the process of adopting. We have our first meeting on June 28. Please pm if you would like more information.
Thanks!!:)
IS THERE ANYONE FROM THE PITTSBURGH AREA WHO HAS HAD A PLACEMENT OF A CHILD IN THEIR TEENS ?? NRJ
I know that this thread is old, but wanted to share information for anyone in the Pittsburgh area who is still looking for local support. We are in the Pittsburgh area (North), and future adoptive parents (hoping to adopt from Texas). We attend meetings with the Pittsburgh Adoption Support Group in Etna, PA. I highly recommend this organization for support, networking, and socializing with other adoptive parents & adoptees (for the children as they get older). They meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m., September through June, at the First Congregational Church of Etna located at the corner of Walnut and Locust Streets in Etna, PA. They invite speakers to discuss topics that are of interest to all. Past guest speakers have included pediatricians, attorneys, social workers, CPR instructors, and birth mothers. They also hold two or three family events each year for the kids to get together.
Their website is out-of-date, but the group is still very active. The URL is: http://www.geocities.com/pghadoptsg/ for directions and contact information.
Feel free to pm me if you want more details. They are a great group! Hope to meet you there soon.
